Project Description

The Scope complex in Geelong replaced an obsolete special school with a Day Centre incorporating specialist learning, hydrotherapy and exercise areas. The complex also includes an administrative and meeting hub for staff and consultants who provide outpatient services in the region.

The single level building is clad externally in brick consistant with its suburban context. In this instance however the brick is heavily patterned to add a level of complexity and interest to the more extensive surfaces. Taller building volumes of the building, including treatment rooms and activity spaces, that ‘pop’ above the brickwork are clad in metal siding in order to minimise cost. The metal clad porte cochere offers a playful welcome to all visitors.

Brickwork is carried through into the interior of the building, lining the internal ‘street’ that forms the main pedestrian spine. The street is further articulated with colourful joinery elements and decorative wall linings.
