Project: Grange Road Level Crossing Removal
-
Location: Alphington
-
Client: North East Program Alliance
Project Description
One of the Victorian Government’s list of 50 priority sites for removal the Grange Road location of this crossing allowed for a grade separation project without disrupting the existing stations at Alphington and Fairfield.
The configuration of the infrastructure was carefully considered to allow for integration of pedestrian and cycle links into the overall urban landscape response. The design provides for high quality shared use paths along the corridor and two footbridges across the rail line. Wayfinding signals are integral to the design and provide clear guidance to users.
MGS was engaged as a subconsultant within the North East Program Alliance with responsibilities for architectural design and urban design integration including vehicle and pedestrian bridges, fencing and rail cutting retaining wall design. Extensive consultation across key government stakeholders, local councils and the wider community was undertaken.
