Project Description
The University of Canberra Masterplan focuses on an enhanced and renewed Campus that builds upon the unique character of the existing academic heart and allow for its renovation and expansion over the next 20 years and beyond. The Master Plan supports the growth of a strong UC presence towards both Canberra’s City Centre and Belconnen and reinforces UC’s identity as Canberra’s University: in, of, for and from Canberra and its surrounding regions, with global outreach.
A Campus Vision was developed based on the ambitions of The Educated Life and in response to the extensive stakeholder engagement with student, staff, executives, Aboriginal stakeholders, and authorities. To support this vision and align the design of the Campus with UC’s strategic goals, the Master Plan is organised into four themes: Innovation, Learning, Teaching and Research, Civic University for all ages, Outward-looking and Connected, and Bush Setting, Landscape and Open Spaces.
Under the Innovation, Learning, Teaching and Research theme, the Master Plan delivers distinctive yet connected learning neighbourhoods, creating network of knowledge nodes within the Campus that provide a full range of services and with learning at the core of development. These learning neighbourhoods are linked by high quality, safe and engaging learning walks, and corridors: pedestrian-prioritised zones that provide and showcase opportunities for learning and engagement, with supporting social, natural, and retail spaces. The Campus core, as the central neighbourhood, continues to be the lively and engaging focal point of all activity, supporting students, staff, and the broader community.
