  • Location: St Kilda

  • Client: Housing First

Project Description

Housing First (formerly Port Phillip Housing Association) has, with funding
support from the Victorian Government, acquired the buildings known as City
Gate Apartments. City Gate provides accommodation to some of Melbourne’s most vulnerable women and children.

The site incorporates the historically significant Bundalohn Mansion, which will be partially rebuilt and refurbished as part of the site redevelopment along with ‘Darwalla’, an interesting building from the ‘Hollywood’ era of architecture. A new building will replace a third existing delapidated building on the corner of the site. This building has been carefully shaped to enable the existing Mansion to reconnect with the street, and with an architectural expression that draws heavily on local material and sylistic influences.

The project will deliver 50 new safe and inclusive units and new landscaped common areas for disadavantaged women and families.
